On Valentine's night when we (my partner & I) were walking back home after our very casual Valentine's dinner, I noticed that there's an Asian cosmetics store in Chancery. I never noticed it before. So a couple of days later,  I decided to go and check it out. I was disappointed as everything is so over-priced. I could get the same thing way cheaper at Atrium.

Anyway, this is not what I'm going to talk about on this post. After disappointing with the ridiculously expensive Asian cosmetics, I went to MAC Pro Store which is over the road. I didn't go there for about 1-2 months. I usually go to MAC counter at my local department store as it's more convenient. I saw that I have Peacocky Collection. I've already got some of the eye shadows so I turned around to leave the store. And, there it was, a Mickey Contractor Collection that I've been waiting for! The girl at the store told me that this collection is only available at their 2 Auckland's Pro stores. It just came out a day before. Lucky me!

I picked up 5 products from this collection (oouch!): Athma Eye Shadow Quad, Matte Lipstick in Mehr, Eye Shadows in Oomph & Marvel, and Fuidline in Siahi.

I like this quad a lot. The colours are all great for everyday looks. Jaan - a beige with glitters, Folie - a medium-reddish brown, Vivah - a dark brown with sparkles, and Carbon - (everyone knows what this is) a matte black. I like Vivah the most in this quad. I've been wearing it for most of the days this week. Gorgeous brown :)

Mehr lipstick is my most favourite in this collection. It's a matte lipstick but it goes on very creamy on my lips. I don't feel that it has a matte finish at all. It's just not as shinny as the other MAC lipstick finishes.

When I first tried it on at the store, I instantly felt in love with this lipstick. I don't usually wear a pinky pink lipstick but this one does brighten up my whole look when I put it on. However, as a matte lipstick it kind of shows up all the lines on my lips. So I fixed the problem by applying a thin layer of lipgloss over.

The next items are eye shadows. I got this two cos they're the colours that I likely to be using them. I know that purple looks good with my skin.

Marvel is a medium/dark shade of purple with shimmers. I wanted this one basically because I haven't got anything like it yet.

Oomph is a dark green with shimmers. Out of the 2 shadows, I like this one better. The texture is smoother than Marvel. I think this shade would be nice for creating a green smoky look.

I was deciding between this shade and Ivy (the bright teal). The same reason for most of MAC products I bought, it's something I would wear for my normal looks.

Nothing much to say about this beautiful & unique eye liner except GORGEOUS!. It's a nice makeup item to have if you want to add some fun into your makeup collection. It can also transform your plain boring everyday look into an interesting eye-catching eye makeup.

I was having a great time taking photos and doing swatches for this collection. Mickey is a MAC's Director of Makeup Artistry for India. I think his collection had been created to suit us, medium (or darker) skin tone. I guess that's why I found myself wanting so many things from this collection.

I hope you find this review helpful and gives you some ideas about the products before you hit a MAC store.

Take care x x

This has got to be one of my February favorite beauty products! I saw lots of reviews on OPI Shatter but it hasn't arrived in New Zealand yet (and God knows when. NZ's always a season late). Well, OPI polishes are normally retailed at around NZ$25 which is quite expensive. Missha Leopard Nail Polishes are only NZ$13.90! So I went straight to Missha after I saw this new product on their website. OK, I'm lying. I didn't get there until a week after I saw it. Work has been pretty hectic lately.

Anyway, these babies come in 3 shades: Black, Brown and Purple. What caught my eye when I first saw them were the leopard print caps. Aren't they gorgeous? I bought the purple one. I thought it would look great with bright colours. When I tried them on at the store, this shade seemed to crack (or shatter as you may use) a lot nicer and better than the other ones. I think the black was my less favourite. It didn't crack as well and I think the polish didn't go on as smooth as the other 2 shades.

What I like the most about this purple is that it's kind of have a duo-chrome effect. I can see a purple in one angle and a dark navy in another with a pink undertone. So it's like buy one colour, get another one free! I found that his particular shade gives different shade on different colour you put on the first layer. I tried it with a dirty green and it showed up with slight green-ish/blue-ish but still can see the purple. Pretty cool, eh?

I find that the best way to apply this polish is "the little, the better". Remember! If applied too thick, it won't crack/shatter! I scrapped the polish off the brush at the edge of the bottle. You want to have just enough polish for one stroke. It's totally okay if doesn't cover to the tip of your nails. You can reapply it and it still looks perfect. Cool, right? Who doesn't like a nail polish that you can be as messy as possible and it's still look good :)
Apply your favourite nail polish as a base colour
The polish will dry matte but don't worry. That's why you have a top coat for. If you like the matte look, you can just stop there. But as you all know, top coat will help the polish lasts longer.  It does dry very quick so I had to work a little quicker to get the pattern I want.

My tips for applying this Leopard polish is to wait for each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Also, each stroke have different patterns so you have to try applying this in different direction. I applied mine lengthwise first and then across. You can do crisscross, dots or any style you can think of, really.

FYI: I used China Glaze in Strawberry Field as my base colour.

OK, girls! Go grap one of these amazing nail polishes and show me what they look like on your nails :)

(P/S - I'll go get the brown one this weekend. Like them that much :P)

BEAUTY HAUL - Lipstick Queen/MAC/Dolly Wink

I went out last Saturday initially just to take a short walk in town after I was being at home all day the day before. I felt that I needed to get out of the house for a while. You know, you can get pretty lazy if you're doing nothing all day. It was meant to be just a short stroll down the road. Yeah...I went out and ended up with these stuff.....a Dolly Wink False Eyelash Case, a MAC Cremesheen Lipstick and 2 x Lipstick Queen 15 Minutes of Fame Lip Glosses.

I saw that Smith & Caughey's (a department store in Auckland) was having their End of Season Sale so I went in to check out what they had on special. Nothing was really fancy me as I wasn't in the mood for shopping. Then I saw these lip glosses from Lipstick Queen. The colourful packaging caught my eyes. These 15 Minutes of Fame Lip Glosses are very pigmented and non-sticky. I never bought any Lipstick Queen products before. I like trying new products so I thought why didn't I give them a try? The price was also very attractive, normally retail at NZ$29.50 but I got them for NZ$12.40 each. What a bargain! I also like that they named each colour with each minute. I bought 4 Minutes (a neutral pink) and 6 Minutes (a bright peachy coral.

Top - Bottom: 6 Minutes - 4 Minutes

4 Minutes: Naughty Nude

6 Minutes; Bright Melon

and once a girl starts to shop, you would never stop her....

I also got this cute Dolly Wink False Eyelash Case. If you've never heard of Dolly Wink. It's a popular cosmetics brand from Japan. This brand is popular in Asia. Their false lashes are very good quality. I have them in No.1 (I think they have up to No.6) and I love them a lot. They give full thick lashes but yet still look not too much. Anyway, I'm developing a new addiction to false lashes and I have them laying around everywhere. It's NZ$12.50 from an Asian cosmetics store at Mid City. With it, all my falsies will be neatly stored together and away from dust.

Inside, it's divided into 2 compartments. I'll put the used lashes on the big side and the end bits (that I trimmed off to fit on natural lash lines) in the smaller side. Perfect! Love it!

Here comes an all time most wanted nude lipstick...MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Creme d'Nude. Guess I don't have to say much about this product. It's the most popular MAC lipstick! It's a nude with pink undertone. I don't own many nude lip colours but this one is by far the most perfect nude lipstick for me. Every girl should own at least one nude lipstick, and if you want to get one I would recommend Creme d'Nude.

Not only that Cremesheen lipstick is my favourite finish for MAC lippies but the shade is just right for my skin tone. It doesn't make me look dead like most nude lipstick does. It's kind of sheer out my natural lip colour. It's always out of stock at my MAC counter. The girl at MAC told me that they've just had them in. So, I decided to get one. By the way. a nick on it was from my clumsy finger.

And, that was it for my unplanned shopping trip. Even though it was an unexpected expense but I'm happy with everything I bought. I think I got them at reasonably good prices.

Until next time....Stay beautiful :)

I've got these 2 mascaras a while ago but I've been busy with other things and forgot to make a review. I bought Bad Gal from Trade Me (NZ's ebay), and The Falsies from Farmers. Personally, I don't buy many of the high-end mascaras. I think that drugstore mascaras are as good as the high-end ones (or some are even better!) Besides, mascaras don't have a very long life time. You know, you throw one out after about 3-4 months. For me, it depends on how often I use it. The ones that I don't use a lot usually last up to about 6 months. The longest one for me I had was Maybelline Sky High Curves, it lasted for a year (or even a little bit over a year). I had some experience buying high-end mascaras & I ended up not liking them & never used them again. That I'm talking about money going down the drain (in this case, going down the bin). I think why buying expensive mascaras when I can get the same result for a fraction of the price.

OK, enough with the ramble. Let's get started!

After I saw loads and loads of Youtube videos raving about The Falsies, I was wondering if they were going to bring it to NZ. And YES! It has finally arrived. It was released here at the beginning of the year. I didn't get it until a few weeks later. The first impression I had with The Falsies was that I like the bright packaging. It comes in a fuchsia tube with a metallic blue writing. The shape is the same as the other Volum' Express mascaras.

What I like the most is inside the tube, the brush. It's what they called "spoon shape". It slightly curves like a spoon with soft bristles on 2 sides (not all around the brush like normal).

It also has an indentation towards the bottom of the brush. This bit here makes the brush very flexible. I mean it kind of bend to fit the shape of your lashes. You can see it in the photo below.

The formula is similar to The Colossal. I'm not too fuss about the smell (some people complaint about the smell of some mascaras). I can't smell anything when it's on my lashes anyway. As you may know that I'm weird, I don't like a mascara when I first use it cos it's a little too wet for me. I like the texture of mascaras when they dries out just a little bit. I feel like it holds my curl better when it a little dry and it doesn't leave some dots on my lower after i blink. Also, it's not likely to make me have panda eyes at the end of the day.

Let's see the result.......

My bare eye
with one coat
It's quite impressive, right? and you can see, there's some black dots on my lower inner corner. It happened after I blinked. You can build up the thickness with more coata. It actually even more dramatic after the second coat. I was so excited about the result and forgot to take a picture for the second coat. But I guess you can see how good it makes my lashes look. Even though, it's not exactly like "falsies", but I would say it's doing a good job for my sad little lashes.

Now, on to Benefit BadGal. I always buy waterproof mascara as it holds my curl all day. When I bought this mascara, I thought they said it's waterproof but it doesn't say that it is on the package. So I'm not quite sure whether it's waterproof or not. But I think It's not. A bit disappointed, really.

There's nothing much to say about the packaging. If you're familiar with Benefit brand, you know what to expect from the presentation of the products: girlie & glamorous. I like the box packing but not too much of the tube. Don't ask me why? I just do. Well, The fat & long tube does give an impression of big thick lashes.

Bad Gal has a normal brush & bristles which I really like. I don't enjoy using new rubber wand that much. It's too flimsy for me. I prefer the old-fashion hard & sturdy wand & brush..

The brush is massive. It's the biggest mascara brush I've ever seen! No, I'm lying. I've seen a few that are as big as this one. I like the soft texture of the mascara. I can feel that it's creamier and softer on my eyes than drugstore mascaras. That's one thing I've found about the difference quality of mascaras. The high-end ones tend to have a better texture. Actually for Bad Gal, I'm not quite sure that it's soft because it's not a waterproof version, or because it's a better quality.

As you can see, it's less dramatic than The Falsies. But since I'm not comparing the two mascaras in this post, so I'm just going to tell how I feel about the product & how I think the product changes the appearance of my eyelashes. Well, in the photo is one coat. The application gave me nice defined lashes. It can be built up with 2 or more coats. I think it separates the lashes very nicely and there's no big clumps to be seen. There's a downside of this Bad Gal, it didn't hold my curl very well. After about half an hour, my eyelashes were droopy. They were just back to almost as same as the lashes before I curled then. Only left a tiny bit of curl to my lashes. However, I still like it and am still going to continue using it. I fix the problem by applying the final layer with a waterproof mascara. This way, it won't be left alone at the back of my makeup drawer and I don't waste any of my hard earned money :D

Thanks for reading my blog & I hope you're enjoying it!
